I love my brick! I have had around three months of the phone being bricked at least 20 hours a day (messaging, maps and music apps still allowed) and it has helped so much. I schedule it to go on at 1 past midnight and do dedicated phone time before bed - not generally advisable but it works for me. I wrote a book in two of those months and strongly suspect that getting off phone all the time opened up the mental capacity and appetite for that project. I’m used to it now and don’t expect constant access to emails and browser and it’s cool! I am very pleased!
If you aren’t sure and want to try a cheaper option first. Attaching an NFC sticker to any object and using it as a trigger for a free phone blocking app is not hard and way lower cost.
yes! there’s an app called foqos that does the same thing as brick but with an nfc tag for free (and wants to keep it free) it has the schedule settings and everything
when i first heard of this months ago i laughed. who needs to spend that much money to stay off their phones i thought, somewhat churlishly. im not someone who uses or checks my phone when with people or busy.
but now 20 days away from the start of 3 months of final exams i find myself staying up for like 6 hours a night in bed on my phone then half as much in the morning. perhaps because i have nothing to do everyday except revise, stuck in the house, i find myself reaching for distractions more and more. its ruining my revision schedule and my sleep schedule!
tl;dr i think i will get this, ty for the recommendation.
I’ve had Brick for six months. At 6 PM I have it set to block access to news/information apps and at 9 PM my device becomes a dumb phone with access to only phone, text, weather, and calendar. I’m very happy with how Brick has helped me reduce random scrolling and browsing. I love waking up to a dumb phone. Really encourages a more analog life. My next step in breaking up with my telephone is mustering the will to delete my email app and all browsers from my phone.
I love your names for the modes. It makes me think more about the increased fun and joy that I’m trying to have by being on my phone less. I have a brick but hadn’t set it up yet because I’ve just been thinking of it as a boring restriction, so I think this will help!
I got these for my husband and I for Christmas after relentless paid ads (we haven’t done our gift exchange yet) and your endorsement makes me much more confident !!

I love your schedules and their names. Do you have more that you're willing to share on here?

The schedules are what’s been truly clutch for me, especially first thing in the morning and in the evening.
Thank you for this elaborate post, you convinced me!
Does the brick work for more than one phone in a household? Or dos each device need a brick? Thanks!
My husband and I share one!
Hey! This inspired me to buy a brick but your code isn’t working and I want to make sure you get the credit. Do you have a new one I should use?

This was really helpful, not only to learn about this device but also to feel seen and less weird for having similar struggles. thank you!
