Also, as a pastor, Wendell Berry and Mary Oliver and like THE poets for people that elicit an eye roll because they're like a poet gateway drug that most people just stay at instead of going deeper. So people who think they're more intellectual will be like "aw, how quaint that you like them and only them." It's stupid.
Ah you’re a pastor who likes poetry? That’s awesome. I was a theology major and in my writing and work as a therapist there are definitely themes that show up with it in discussing the existential and mystery
I was a creative writing major and my main thing was I loved poetry, so this post is speaking my language in such an intense way. Mary Oliver is my favorite poet too! You might also like Dorianne Laux, Rumi, Ada Limon, and Joy Harjo. "dust" by Dorianne Laux and "she had some horses" by Joy Harjo, in particular.
Scrolling down this page I actually got goosebumps because I've never seen someone else talk about "From Blossoms"- my husband and I had that poem read aloud during our wedding ceremony, that's how much it meant to us.

I like Gwendolyn Brooks and one of the poems that she wrote that rips me to shred is "To the young who want to die"

WAIT?! You started The Orange Trend?? Absolutely love you for that!
Yeah! Mostly because I enjoy making poetry sounds over calming music and I love being reminded on my FYP now to reread that poem
